Dental infections are fast, aggressive and can involve vital areas of the jaws, face and neck. If not treated immediately, toothaches can develop into complicated dental infections.
When the symptoms of a toothache arise it is best to contact our office for an “emergency appointment” that day. You will be scheduled to be seen that day. When seen a radiograph will be taken and the Doctor will present you with pain free, affordable treatment options. If you decide to “save your tooth” with Root Canal Therapy, you will begin the pulpal debridement and disinfection of the tooth and surrounding tissues. This visit will be short and relieving. Follow up appointments to asses healing and complete the root canal treatment will be scheduled. Appropriate pain medications and antibiotics will be prescribed for your comfort and health.
You may be advised that the tooth is not restorable or necessary (i.e. wisdom tooth). In that case a dental extraction (pulling) may be indicated under local anesthesia with soothing nitrous oxide sedation. Follow up to ensure proper healing and comprehensive care will be scheduled. Again, appropriate pain medications and antibiotics will be prescribed for you comfort and health.
Injuries to the inside of the mouth include tears, puncture wounds and lacerations to the cheek, lips or tongue. The wound should be cleaned right away with warm water, and the injured person taken to a hospital emergency room for the necessary care. Bleeding from a tongue laceration can be reduced by pulling the tongue forward and using gauze to place pressure on the wound.
